Month-Long Drive Set To Equip Needy Students For School
As the end of summer approaches, students are already prepping for the upcoming school year. Stores' "Back to School" sales are nearly in full swing and families will soon scramble to buy all the needed school supplies. However, some children cannot afford all the required supplies. To help these students fill their book bags, Loudoun County Family Service is sponsoring the Annual School Supply Drive the entire month of July.
The drive is organized by area stores in cooperation with the Loudoun County Department of Family Services. It is designed to prepare children of low-income families for the school year. Donations are needed, and collection sites are located across Loudoun County, including Loudoun Community Centers, Loudoun Area Agency on Aging, Giant food stores, Cascades Library, Ashburn Library and Purcellville Library.
Look for a donation box or shopping cart marked with the school supplies posters and fliers in participating stores and community centers. Students need book bags, spiral notebooks, three-ring binders, pencils, loose leaf 3 ring binder, scissors (round end), rulers, crayons, composition books, pocket folders, tissues, plastic storage bags, liquid soap, and other miscellaneous items. If you have a child in school, use their supply list for reference.
Loudoun nonprofit organizations, government agencies and elementary schools working with low-income families will distribute the supplies in time for school in August. For more information about the school supply drive, call 703-771-5375.
