SHERMAN, TX--Some Grayson County inmates will have to stay elsewhere while their jail is being expanded. Monday, Grayson County Commissioners agreed to let Fannin County house some of their inmates for $45 a day per individual.
Nearly 100 prisoners could be spending the rest of the year in Fannin county until construction for the $5 million to $7 million Grayson County Jail is complete.
County officials say it's necessary to stay in compliance with rules set by the Jail Commission.
"They tell us how much space each prisoner has to have," Johnny Waldrip said, Grayson County Commissioner. "They tell us how many prisoners we can have by how many jailers we have. They regulate everything in a jail. If we don't follow the rules, they can shut our jail down."
Commissioner Waldrip said the agreement saves the county money. It's nearly $10 more expensive a month per inmate to keep them in the dated Grayson County Jail.
County officials plan for the jail to be complete by early next year.

My son is in Grayson County Jail. I have called there several times but they keep telling me the same thing, I cannot talk to him or visit him and I don't know why because when I ask they won't say. I've tried getting in touch with his father but he is not taking my calls either. Unfortunately I live in Ontario, Canada (1500 miles away). Are there visiting times for that jail does anyone know? All I know is that he was convicted of nonviolent offenses and I found out online that he has to serve 2 years. He has no TDCJ number but does have a personal id number.
