Lumar announces run for St. John Clerk of Court | NOLA.com
LaPlace resident Marva A. Lumar has announced her candidacy for St. John the Baptist Parish Clerk of Court.
Lumar, an Edgard native, worked in the clerk of court's office for 26 years under the administrations of Harold Montegut and Harold Montegut Jr.
"I have had hands-on experience in every department," she said in her statement.
Lumar said when she was hired in 1975 she was the first African-American to work in the clerk's office.
Lumar said she attended Nicholls State University while working full-time and became a certified member of Women Entrepreneur of Economic Development.
1974 Lumar is a graduate of the School of the Second Ward High, and lived in LaPlace for 20 years.
Eliana Defranceschi is the incumbent clerk. The primary election is Oct. 22.
