Chamber of Commerce Briefs
On July 6, the Fairview and District Chamber of Commerce, members came together to give updates on Chamber matters and discuss what is upcoming for the organization. First up was an update on the Chamber Tourist Booth. The Booth is set up for the 2011 Alberta 55 Plus Summer Games, with banners and decorations.
"They have had 137 people go through so far, I think that is amazing," President Sharon Noullet said.
Chamber Directory Profits
Barb Byers gave an update on the Chamber of Commerce Directory, announcing that the directory was going to the printers and should be out in about two weeks. Additionally, the Chamber saw a profit from ad sales within the directory.
"We will be making about a $1,500 profit on it," Byers said. "Its been so long since we have done this, I didn't know where to start with selling advertising."
Next year, the directory will be done earlier in the year. Roughly 3,500 copies were printed, about 1,500 less than what will be printed next year.
Golf Tournament Success
The final figures came in on the Farmers and Merchants Golf Tournament, with the Chamber earning $8,461 in income for the tournament, with only $3,612 going out for expenses. This brought the total profit for the event to $4,849 for the Chamber.
A total of 17 teams took part, with seven hole sponsors.
55 Plus Games Update
Gary Sky and Letitia Dempster gave an update on the 2011 Alberta 55 Plus Summer Games, announcing that a total of 1,200 guests would be attended. A total of 875 of those are participants, while the rest are made up of non-participating guests and 100 VIPs.
"It is a few hundred down from what we hoped for, but we attribute that to it's a long road up to Fairview," Sky said. "We have a record of 230 RVs, which is pretty significant, no other games has ever exceeded that number."
Doctor Recruitment
"We advertised all over the world and we have not got one bite." Chris Heck said.
Heck announced that there would be a doctor coming up to look at Fairview this week, who has Fairview, Swan Hills and Fox Creek as his places to look at.
"If you see a doctor in town, he will be looked after but we are not going to overdue it until he brings his family and says he wants to come to Fairview," Heck said. "When Alberta Services brings them here, they are putting the dollars in so we have to go by their guidelines.
