I'll Go and Do More - Reading Dine'
This story is particularly relevant since there is so much controversy among the Navajo over whether Linda Lovejoy should even be trying to become president of the Navajo Nation in 2010 (the Navajo election is in early November 2010).
The book had many personal connections for me and it also has so much Navajo history in it. The story of Wauneka’s upbringing and of her journey as a woman leader is inspiring. As a council delegate, she was an aggressive leader: in Indian health care she led an early fight against tuberculosis, and undertook many other issues.
Wauneka had the privilege of having Henry Chee Dodge, the first U.S. government appointed chief of the Navajos, as her father. Chee spoke fluent English and Navajo and stressed education for his children.
