Woman scammed in vehicle purchase: South Euclid Police Blotter

SOUTH EUCLID

THEFT, DILL ROAD: A woman reported to police on June 29 that she submitted a winning bid to purchase a 2004 Chrysler Sebring from an eBay seller in the amount of $3,060.

The woman exchanged e-mails with the seller and on June 2 purchased a money order from PNC Bank for the sales amount. She then paid UPS to have the money order, as well as shipping fees, mailed to the seller. She was to pick up the car in Pittsburgh.

After the money was sent, the woman attempted to contact the seller but learned that the seller’s phone number had been disconnected.. Her e-mails were not returned and the seller’s eBay account was listed as inactive. Police and eBay are investigating.

HARASSING COMMUNICATION, HINSDALE ROAD: On July 4, a woman, 48, told police that she had been receiving harassing phone calls from her ex-girlfriend, a Cleveland resident, 38. The complainant said she answered all the phone calls, so had no threatening voice mails to play for police.

The complainant said she and the Cleveland woman had been having difficulties the past several months. On July 2, she went to the Cleveland woman’s home and, she said, was physically abused.

The older woman told police that her ex-girlfriend choked and slapped her and banged her head against a wall, threatening to kill her if she ever saw another woman. She said she didn’t know what her ex-girlfriend, who carries a gun, is capable of doing. Police contacted the Cleveland woman who denied harming the woman and making threats. She said that the older woman was trying to get back at her for filing police reports for not returning borrowed items. The Cleveland woman said the other woman was stalking her and recently took and didn’t return a key to her car.

Police advised the women not to have contact with each other.

THEFT, MAYFIELD ROAD: On July 3, a woman, 52, told police that her car had been broken into while it was parked in her apartment garage. The woman said the car had been broken into a few days earlier and was damaged, so she didn’t lock it this time in order to prevent more break-in damage.

At 10:55 p.m., a neighbor told the woman that her car’s door was ajar. She found that someone had gone through the car and stole a cell phone charger and some loose change. The total value of the theft was estimated at $35. Police told the woman to always lock her car door.

UPS shipping charges disappear with refresh

I'm having a shipping calculation issue with a client's site where the shipping is calculated correctly when an order is entered, but if a user refreshes their browser on the order confirmation page (checkout_confirmation.php) the shipping amount calculated by weight disappears and the order is passed through with no shipping charges (or in this case, with only the Handling Fee specified in admin). I'm using a mod'd version of OscMax 2.0 with a custom theme based off of the stock theme 'Compromise'.
