On the road: Paonia family becomes full time RV'ers - 6/22/11
Because that’s where they’ve been: on the road. They rented out their Paonia home (the kind not on wheels), went to Texas where they picked up a 450-square-foot home (an RV, the kind of home that is definitely on wheels), and have since been traveling the country. Since January, the Seeleys have been in Arizona, Texas, New Mexico, Tennessee Missouri and Wisconsin. Todd and Renee grew up in Wisconsin. Before their son Seth was born, the two traveled the country in a pickup and a fifth wheel camper for three months. They visited Moab, Utah, and Ouray, and fell in love with the Western Slope, eventually hanging up their travelling cloaks and settling in Montrose, then Delta, and finally Paonia in 2000. Seth was born in 2001. Finally, an opportunity came up that they couldn’t resist, an opportunity that would allow them to finally hit the road. A couple at their church in Paonia was a distributor for RV SunShade Company. They wanted to retire, and Todd and Renee were looking for a steady source of income they could do on the road. Enter RV SunShade, where they make and install screens for RVs. The family has also found a strong sense of community with other full time RV’ers. “An RV park feels like an old-fashioned community,” Renee said. Everyone is outside, talking to each other, looking out for each other. They feel safer at an RV park than they would in a hotel, she said. RV’ers are friends and neighbors. “We’ve met some really great people and done some really neat things,” she said. “We’ve made some great friends.” Since they’ve become a full time RV family, the Seeleys have seen a sea turtle rescue on the Gulf of Mexico. They toured the inside of a dam and a nuclear power plant — and not just the touristy parts. At the power plant, they were taken on a tour by an employee with high security clearance. They went spelunking in a private cave and ended up walking along an underground river to get back to the surface. Seth is required, by Colorado law, to be evaluated every other year by a qualified individual to make sure his knowledge and skill set is where it’s supposed to be for his age. That won’t be a problem: Seth is very well-spoken for a 10-year-old boy, and can even spout out lines of the poem “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost, a feat some college students would be hard-pressed to do.Tennessee Mini Storage - News
